Director
Eugene is an early career director of theatre and opera. He is a 2024 Young Artist with Opera Queensland.
Upcoming projects include Assistant Director on Hamlet at Opera Australia, The Pigeons with the Other Theatre (KXT Bakehosue).
Eugene will direct a new production for Pinchgut Opera in their 2025 season.
Eugene has recently received CreateNSW funding to develop an opera based on Eugene O'Neill's The Hairy Ape, to be composed by Will Gardiner with libretto by Julian Larnach. A development showing will be produced in 2025.
Most recently, Eugene was Associate Director on Lucia di Lammermoor and the Brisbane Bel Canto Festival with Opera Queensland. Eugene also directed From Morning to Midnight - with a cast of 16 for The Other Theatre.
Eugene was Assistant Director to Stuart Maunder on Turn of the Screw and Voss for State Opera of South Australia, Neil Armfield on Platée for Pinchgut Opera and on Barrie Kosky’s The Golden Cockerel for the Adelaide Festival.
Eugene is the artistic director of The Other Theatre. For The Other Theatre, he has directed Graeme Koehne and Louis Nowra’s Love Burns, Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas, Shakespeare’s Richard II, Mike Barlett’s Cock (Sydney Mardi Gras Festival x Brand X) and the Australian premiere of Marius von Mayneburg’s The Dog, The Night and The Knife.
Eugene was the 2019 Young Director with Pacific Opera where he directed Puccini’s Suor Angelica and various scenes concerts. Eugene was a two-time recipient of the Bright Ideas Grant. Eugene has been supported by CreateNSW and the Seaborn, Broughton & Walford Foundation.
For the 2021 Adelaide Festival, Eugene was Assistant to the Director to Neil Armfield on Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
